John Azpuru (Johnny),

is a current doctoral student in Clarinet Performance from the Chicagoland area (Palatine, IL). He received his Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance in the Spring of 2023 from the University of Kentucky, where he studied under Dr. Scott Wright. At The Boston Conservatory, Johnny studied under the tutelage Jan Halloran, and was named the Ricardo and Marla Lewitus named Scholar. He earned his Master’s of Music in Clarinet Performance from the conservatory in 2025. Johnny is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Clarinet Performance at Michigan State University under the direction of Dr. Guy Yehuda.

Johnny has attended several different festivals and performed internationally. Recent festival participations include, Zodiac Chamber Music Festival, Harvard Chamber Music Festival, Belgian Clarinet Academy and Prague Summer Nights. He has performed solo and chamber music across the United States, France, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.

Johnny is an active performer but remains passionate about sustaining a private studio as well as cultivating an active social media platform to showcase different clarinet and other music related content. Johnny uploads almost daily, demonstrating different technique exercises, excerpts, and more. As a clarinet instructor he maintains a studio ranging from beginners to pre-professional students around the world.
